Hi Bunny.......this is AWESOME!!! Sheila Okay, first of all, this poem is a tad long, but I wrote it to be simple and easy to follow, actually, more like a short story. It deals with faith, and how, though we must wait upon the Lord and be patient, often He's the One waiting on us, waiting for us to finally believe He loves us enough to do what we need and most desire. He's a loving Father who loves to give good gifts to His children, not to bribe them or prove Himself to him, but simply as part of a loving relationship. This parable poem I wrote recently deals with this.
In a vision of the night I stood within a realm dark and lonely.
There was no sun......No moon......No stars......No lamp
And somehow I felt drawn from within To seek a land of light and beauty Where flows the Grace of Heaven's King. I stepped this way and that But everywhere I turned
There seemed to be a pit......A wall......A thorn Or any of a myriad obstacles Which would keep my desperate soul from progress.
Then.......................... From my side I heard a voice call to me
"My child I am the Keeper of this domain. Everything here is under My command. What is it you seek?"
"I seek the land of light" I said "Where Grace flows strong from Heaven's Lord But I do not know the way And I walk as a blind man in this darkness."
"Do you believe that I can show you?" The man softly replied.
I was about to say "no" But something inside me told me I could trust him. "Yes" I answered......"I believe."
"Very good My child" He said "Now do you believe That I, this instant Could simply carry you there?"
"Yes." I replied Hardly realizing what I was saying.
Then He asked one more question "Now My child...... Do you believe that I would?"
"I do not know you." I answered "How can I know If you would be that good to me?"
"My child" He answered "Everything around you I made and forever will guide And all To bring deepest joy to My children. My child......Do you now believe?
I struggled for a moment. I didn't wish to hurt him or appear weak But at the same time I scarcely knew this stranger.
"I don't know." I finally responded "Maybe you can help me."
Come." He replied And that was all He said.
I took His hand And we started walking down a soft narrow path Apparently in the only direction I neglected to search. I knew nothing of the trail except that it rose and dipped Now and then......And that occasionally, My face would bump against a hanging leaf. Then we came to a wall It's height covered with smoothest stones.
"Do you believe I can carry you over it?" The man asked.
"If you are the Keeper" I replied confidently "You probably know how to do anything here."
"Very good My child" He said "Now do you believe that I would?"
"You haven't failed me yet." I answered "But I still am just making your acquaintance. I don't know what you'd do for someone like me."
"Are you willing to try?" He asked "If I succeed at this task maybe it would be easier To believe that I'd do more for you."
I thought about how this strange guide had led me Perfectly around every obstacle Which once seemed un-surmountable to my heavy heart.
"Yes I'll try." I replied.
At once I was enveloped in a great wind It lifted me high off the ground And forward a few steps And then set me back down.
"Feel behind you." The man then said "Is that not the wall that once blocked your progress?"
I reached behind me And touched a surface high and stony.
"Yes It is." I said with astonishment.
"That is good." The man replied "now walk with me and I will show you greater wonders."
I walked with Him through mile after mile Of this strange and dreary darkness. Then we stopped......Quite abruptly.
"Before you" Said the man "is a chasm vast and deep. Do you believe that I can carry you across?"
I slid my foot forward And felt the ground drop away from beneath.
"Yes I believe." I answered "If you carried me over a high wall This is hardly more difficult."
"Very good My child." He said "Do you believe that I would?"
This time my response was clear and confident. "Yes, now I do."
At once I was caught up in the wings of a great eagle. She carried me for what felt like half a mile And then set me again on the soft and solid earth.
I stood astonished Until the man took my hand And we resumed our journey. We walked about ten miles before He spoke again.
"My child. Before us is a mountain whose top touches the sky. What can you believe I might do for you?"
"I'm sure you could lead me over it" I said "And maybe carry me over the roughest rocks."
"Good" He replied "But do you believe that I'd simply carry you to the top?"
"I don't think I need such a favor." I answered. "You probably want me to do what I can myself."
The man paused for a moment before speaking. "Yes......That is sometimes the case. But I, just like many from your world Enjoy giving good gifts to My children. Now......Do you believe that I'd carry you to the top?"
Something within me said I should trust Him.
"Yes, I believe." I replied.
"Walk straight ahead." The man then said.
Confused I stepped forward into what seemed As a small doorway in the wilderness. When I reached the other side I felt around with my feet. In every direction The ground sloped downward. And when the doorway soon vanished I felt in its place the top of a high cliff.
"I am amazed beyond imagination." I exclaimed. "You truly know your way in this place."
"Yes My child" He replied "I am the Keeper of this realm. I am in control of everything that happens here." He paused for a moment before continuing "Now, My child You've seen me do greater and greater wonders for you. Are you able to believe that I'd take you In an instant To the land of light and beauty."
I was silent for several seconds. A few hours earlier It seemed impossible To believe anyone with that much power Could be so kind and tender. But after He had carried me over a wall And a chasm And led me Without effort To the top of a mountain It somehow seemed easier to trust Him. My mind still shouted doubts within me. The fact that He helped me earlier Doesn't necessarily mean That He'd do it now. But deep in my heart
I kept hearing a voice Softly tell me That now At last Was the time to believe.
"Yes, I believe." I answered With simple and childlike confidence.
"Carry me there This very instant."
At once There appeared in the distance A faint speck of blue. It slowly grew larger and larger Shining green as grass at the base.
But I never felt any motion.
The patch of light grew until I could see trees and hills Cities and castles Stretched all around the mountain on which I stood. On every side of me Rose flowers of every color of the rainbow.
But I still never felt any motion.
My eyes were simply opened to a beautiful landscape.
"Welcome to the Land of Light and Beauty." The man then said. "All you hoped for You will find here."
I turned to see my guide And beheld a form that shone like the sun. His clothes were of linen fine and white And His hair was as snow
Beauty and wonder Unseen in the land of darkness.
I looked behind me Over mile after mile of freshest grass. Which dropped suddenly into a canyon Holding in its depths A river clear as purest crystal. And on the other side of the canyon Stood a wall covered with gems And whose height and glory Stretched all around this land.
But somehow Inside me This all seemed familiar As if the steps of my journey Were simply seen from a different angle.
"Have I seen this place before?" I asked "This appears as none other Than where we've already been walking."
"My child" The man answered "When you finally believed I'd take you In an instant To the Land of Light and Beauty. I did not need to carry you anywhere. For you have been here Since shortly after we started walking. Your trust simply let me open your eyes That you At last May behold what I've been preparing for you. My child By faith You have learned To see. Go forth Where you wish My child For this Land of Light and Beauty Has now Become your home."
