~Welcome to Bonnie's Webpage!~ In Loving Memory of our Sweet Bonnie Girl February 1996-October 2, 2003 Rest in peace, good girl...
(Bonnie's ashes and the memorial I made)
In April of 1996, when our son Jacob was only 6 weeks old, James overheard
someone talking about Border Collie pups which were looking for new homes.
We had already thought about getting a dog as I (Rebekah) had never owned
a pet before. So James asked the girl how much they were being sold for
and she said, "They're free!" Wow!! Can't beat a bargain like that! So
that evening we drove out to see the puppies. There were eight of them
in all...but only six left. We chose one of the females and I named her
Bonnie after Rhett and Scarlett's daughter in the movie "Gone With the Wind."
(wrong spelling I know but you get the point!) She is half Border Collie and half Australian Shepherd. Her papa was a working (herding) farm dog. So we set her in the little
cupholder between our seats in the car and drove her home! She was so
tiny! She and Jacob are exactly the same age right down to the week. They
have a very strong bond. She is now a cherished member of our family. She is wonderful with the children. Gentle yet very protective. She doesn't bark at the least little thing and she has been so easy to train. I can't think of a better breed of dog for our family. We'll be buying a home with a bit of acreage early next year (2003) and will be getting another female Border Collie at that time. *One of our favorite silly things to do is have James move Bonnie's mouth as he says "Roll that beautiful bean footage!" (like the Bush's Baked Beans commercial) It's hysterical!!
