~Labor & Delivery~
(and lots of belly shots!)
On Sunday, February 4, at 4:03pm, Hannah Lucille entered the world after 3 really fast hours of labor weighing in at 8 lb.
11 oz. and 19 1/2 in. long. My water broke at 1pm, we were off to the hospital (which is an hour away), and by the time we
arrived, the contractions were 3-4 minutes apart! I checked in around 2:30 and was 'checked' around 3pm. I was between
3-4 cm. at that time. James went to the cafeteria to get something to eat and when he came back 20 minutes later, I was
between 8-9 cm. and getting ready to push! I had asked for an epidural but they said there wasn't time. So I asked for
something through my IV but they infiltrated (MAJORLY blew out) the vein in my hand so all the meds went into my left
hand instead of where I needed them! So needless to say, I was screaming bloody murder and ready to strangle everyone in
the room by the time my husband got back to the room! I pushed for about 30 minutes (I never realized how painful
'crowning' could be without meds) and she was born at 4:03 pm! The cord was around her neck and she was having
difficulty breathing right away due to the fast birth so they had to stimulate her breathing and put her on oxygen for a few
minutes. I had also torn my cervix a bit so they had to clamp it off for awhile. Other than that, everything went well. Her
apgars were 6 and 9. She's beautiful!

2 1/2 hours before Hannah's birth!!
(Yes folks, my water had broken and I was in very active labor in this picture calling all manner of people
and telling them we were on the way to the hospital...which is an hour away! Can you say, "Duh?!?"
My contractions at this point were 5 minutes apart!)
