Greetings from South Africa to you dear Partners. He is Coming so very soon! We reached South Africa fine but as usual tired and this time because of aging. we are very tired, so, thank you so very much for your Prayers. We are settled back into South Africa and are going here again. It was very nice to see those of you that we were privileged to see during the short time I got to travel in the United States. Good old USA looked better than ever, no place like Home.
WE ARE SAFELY BACK IN SOUTH AFRICA
We have now purchased a car for Betty to use for her work here. It is a Volkswagen Jetta, 1995 and is a pretty nice vehicle. It is a V6 and goes well and Betty is very happy with it. It will serve her quite well and has got factory air which is a necessity in South Africa. It cost 65,000 South African Rands which is USA $11,000.00. It of course it is a German Vehicle and is some of the best available over here. It is a 4 door & a nice Blue. Thanks Church of the Good Shepherd for helping us with this much needed transport. It should be quite dependable for Betty and her needs. She is teaching in the Bible School program. I will have to find something for me also as we go different ways and do different things every day. I of course would like a BMW.but they are too pricey here. Next newsletter I will have mine and will tell you what I found. I will have to go into Durban where there is plenty of selection. Here on the south coast there is not much selection with Automatic Transmission and Air Conditioning in the vehicle and the Hot ,Hot summer heat dictates a must for AC. Naturally I want to have Automatic Transmission. Mine will no doubt cost around the same as the Jetta and we only had half enough given for the Jetta and none for the one I buy so we are in need of about $5000.00 remaining for Bettys and $ = 10,000.00 for what I will get.
THIS IS ONE OF THE HARDEST AREAS FOR A MISSIONARY SO PLEASE HELP US IF = YOU CAN. IF YOU CAN HELP WITH THE VEHICLE NEED, PLEASE SEND IT DIRECTLY HERE. OK?? PHOENIX CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY IN PHOENIX - DURBAN - SOUTH AFRICA
This church is being built in honor of the church in Arizona that has been so faithful in helping us here over the many years that we have been here. We have the full foundations in, the walls up about 1 foot on 20 low side and about 4 foot on the other portion of the church plot we were able to purchase. The land is on 20 a sloping piece of land so it took about 4 foot of wall on one side to bring the foundation level. We have laid the brick walls up and poured the Full Church Floor. It is about 45 feet wide and 120 feet long. The area of Phoenix has over half a million Indians living there and it is mainly for those Indians living there that we are building this building. When it is completed it will seat over 600 people. The exterior is face bricks and the interior blocks and then plastered and painted. The floor of course is concrete and will have ceramic tile as finish floor. The face bricks are Red Rustic and roof will be Double Roman clay tiles. IF YOU CAN ASSIST THE CONSTRUCTION COSTS.PLEASE DO.
A VERY VERY SPECIAL REQUEST- I Jack Lockwood urgently need some pretty & dressy CLIP-ON tieswith a pattern for Blue, Brown & Black Suits. I do not like to have to tie the old fashioned ties as we used to. I never get the ends quite right but these just clip on and in a few seconds your tie is neat and in place. =They just are not readily available where we are here. If you can send me one or two I will really appreciate it. Thanks so very much.
BELIEVERS FELLOWSHIP IN PIETERMARITSBURG - SOUTH AFRICA
This building is up to to roof height and will be finished this coming summer. It is also in a Indian Township that is mainly Indians. These of course are Indians that have been born there in South Africa also. It is about the same size as the one above and is ready for the roof to go on now. It has been under Construction for about two years. Construction funds are always hard to come by because it takes so much to purchase the materials. Rickey Pillay is doing a god job here and was formerly a policeman.
FORESTDALE FELLOWSHIP - DUNDEE - NATAL
Pastor Gene Robson is the pastor of this church and is engineering its construction. It is a steel frame structure with Metal roof and Brickwork between the steel columns for outside walls. The steel structure is up and the building is progressing well. All three of these churches are in Natal Province but this one is in A Malotto Township called Dundee which is in Northern Natal. These people are called Colored People here. They are lighter in colored that the Black people as they are kind of brown skinned. Pastor Robson is a cabinet maker and knowns construction and carpentry very well. He is doing a good job.
GRAAF-REINET - CAPE PROVINCE
This church is being built under the direction of the Malotto Pastor named Frank Pienaar. He is over years old and is the original pastor and it is a church we started in a rented room in his township. He is a great joy to us the way he has engineered his church construction. This is in the desert area and looks like it is right out of a Mexico desert movie. The surroundings look like Arizona desert with Cactus and all. We rejoice to see how he is getting his church built. It will seat about 500 and should be finished soon.
CONTINUING OUTREACH IN MISSIONS
My Assistant Missions Director for Africa Seggie Pillay, is doing a great job. I only had about 4 years to train him. BUT..he took to it like a Duck to water. He went with me everywhere and we built new churches in Malawi...Zambia & started our new work in Mozambique. We took foods, clothing , men and construction tools & preached and built churches everywhere we went. We took some people to help us from our churches here in South Africa and though a few in the beginning more are going now. We built new churches here in Dornkop.Hluhluwe and even slept outdoors in a cloth tent we took with us about 20 feet in diameter. We`slept on the ground with a tarpolian under us. We tied it with ropes to a tree and drove stakes on the other 3 sides to keep a shelter over & around us. It was Primitive, but still fun. Some times it rained, but the tent was sufficient and kept us ALMOST DRY. Haha. At night it was black as coal out in the Bush country. Though it was sometimes damp & windy it was a very worthwhile venture.
HE IS NO LONGER JUST MY ASSISTANT..HE IS NOW RUNNING THE OUTREACH PROGRAM HERE IN AFRICA & AND I THANK GOD FOR HIM EVERYDAY AS I DO FOR ALBERT ISAAC
Our latest venture is doing the same things in the nation of Zaire. Zaire has war within their own bounderies over the Diamonds throughout the country. We now have a number of churches there in that Country. Seggie is doing this without me and I have not been there. I am so so proud of him. Is that kind of Proud ok folks ??? I guess I should say Pleased instead of Proud huh? Pray for him please. His efforts added to mine now gives us over 500 churches in 20 countries. Six of these are because of our other wonderful leader who I will tell you about like this next month. His name is Albert Isaac and he lives in Malaysia and is doing a great job also. It thrills my heart to have such MEN OF GOD as these in Life Centre Ministries.=
