BACK ON THE HORSE
Young cowboy Bode*, Brave as could be,
He lay on the ground all covered in dirt.
He looked for his Dad, who, he knew was close by.
Now put me back on that horse
Now all you big cowboys had best “listen up”.
Sometimes that old ground’s gonna rise up to meet ya.
You’ll be “cowboy down”, all covered in dirt.
You’re a cowboy that’s true and you’re supposed to be tough,
Though your eyes may be dry, there are tears in your heart.
Now’s the time to call out for help from above
Now get back on life’s horse and get on with your ride
*Yes, Bode, my grandson was thrown from his first horse before
he was three. That incident was the inspiration for this poem.

DOWN ON HIS KNEES
When he’s down on his knees, he’s sure standing tall.
One cold lonely night as the campfire grew dim,
He thought of the years as he grew older
He took off his hat to see the stars up above.
“Lord” he said, “I don’t see you, but I know you are here.
She said if I ask you , Lord, to come in,
You changed me, Jesus, from the inside out.
Yep! I’m going to church at the old auction barn,
We are Born Again Cowboys , now we’re the real thing.

Thrown from his first horse
Before he was three.
By the tears in his eyes
You could tell he was hurt.
“Dad, give me a hug and
Wipe this tear from my eye.”
and let’s finish our ride.
“Dad, I'm not afraid, ‘cause you're by my side.”
Cause there’s some words of wisdom
In the mouth of this pup.
Some pain and some sorrow’s
Gonna be there to greet you.
It may be just on the inside,
But it’s still gonna hurt.
But sometimes what you’ve got
Just ain’t enough.
You don’t know what to do. You just need a new start.
And your heavenly “Dad”
Will reach down in His love.
He’ll pick you up and He’ll brush off the dirt
He’ll dry your tears and He’ll heal the hurt.
You’re not alone-
You’ve got Jesus inside.

Praying to Jesus just as sure as you please.
He’s had a rough day out riding the range,
But he’s praying not cussing cause his heart has been changed.
He doesn’t care who sees, as on the Lord he does call.
He could ride ‘em and rope ‘em and put ‘em in a pen,
But he’d been tied up in a life filled with sin.
He remembered the word’s of his Mom’s favorite hymn.
He could hear the sound of her voice so sweet
When she sang of Jesus while He had played at her feet.
How he turned away and his heart grew colder.
But His mother’s prayers were playing their part.
He felt a strange warmness way down in his heart.
While they spoke of God’s majesty, his heart felt God’s love.
As he stared to the heavens, in his eyes came a tear.
He was alone on the prairie, but he knew God was near.
It’s just you and me Lord so I want to be clear.
I have ridden my horse down some paths that were wrong,
But your Grace is amazing said the words in Mom’s song.”
You will make me your child, I will be born again.
So here I am Jesus, I am trusting in you.
Don’t just clean me up, Lord, make me brand new.
Now my old friends are wondering what my life’s all about.
Instead of spending all night out running around,
I am going to church on the outskirts of town.
Where the cowboys are praying with uplifted arms.
We’re singing to Jesus and praising His Name,
We’re Branded for Him and we’re just not the same.
We’re on our knees before Jesus, ‘cause He is our King!
