Healthy AIR....
It has come to my attention that our family was NOT sick much the
winter of 2002/2003...nothing serious like we truly expected
moving into a new house with all the "new stuff" fumes and
allergens. Besides the obvious blessing of God which I
acknowledge and praise the LORD JEHOVAH for, I know of 2 things
I have done differently this year: vacuumed daily with a VERY
good vacuum, & bought and maintained numerous houseplants.
Air is truly the most important physical need we humans have.
We can survive for YEARS without good exercise (ask me, I know
*o*). We can survive without sunlight for a long while, though
I don't know of anyone who has studied or desired to study how
long before you keel over from lack of vitamin D. We can live
for days without food, a little shorter without water. But we
cannot survive even an hour without oxygen!!

When God created man, He "breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life; and man became a living soul,"
(Genesis 2:7). Adam, the first man, was placed in the Garden of
Eden. This is what God's Word says, so I believe it. I picture
the beauty of the most gorgeous garden I have ever seen...times
about one hundred! This picture was on a church bulletin and
brought to mind thoughts of Eden:

BEAUTIFUL. And in thinking about the Garden of Eden, that place
in Creation where God placed man--man's first "home" if you
will--, I realize that ALL of the "Healthy YOU" themes are
covered here!
AIR/BREATH,
LIGHT,
God-Pleasing FOOD,
WATER,
EXERCISE,
THOUGHT LIFE/FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT
All the animals, Adam, and Eve, had PURE air, much purer than
we have today. The perfect, God-made, sin-free environment.
They had light. I find it fascinating when studying Creation
that God created light before He created the sun, moon, and
stars (Genesis 1). Isn't God good? He knew in His wisdom that
this would confound the scientific mind, who now is so wise
that he believes that everything evolved from primordial soup.
Smart, hunh? But anyhow....
They had perfect air, light....and they had fruit and veggies
and seeds and nuts for food! NO COOKING! And even better, NO KP
DUTY CLEAN-UP!! Everything they needed to nourish their
PERFECT physical bodies was available in the Garden for the
picking. Take that yummy piece of fruit, rinse it off in that
flowing stream over there (not to remove pesticides, mind, but
to moisten and cool it!), and ENJOY!
So they had water...perfect water. Having lived in (and LOVED)
the Blue Ridge Mountains, I can't help but picture their streams
and waterfalls. And exercise--AAAAAAH! Bad word, that. But, no.
Adam and Eve had perfect bodies, and God gave them
responsibilities in the Garden. And every evening, they would
go walking with God. And talking with God, which brings up the
last of the points:
Thought life and fruits of the Spirit. They in their sinless,
perfectly created bodies fellowshipped with God every day. We
Christians will know that kind of perfect fellowship again
someday, but for now we are blessed to have His written Word and privileged
to have access to His throne in prayer.
These give us the priceless opportunity of daily fellowship with
God! We can hear His Words, know His heart, and share our own with Him....
So there they were, enjoying being a part of God's perfect
creation! But lets get back to the subject for this page: AIR,
BREATH.
We know of sin entering into the picture, marring God's perfect
creation. We know that things grew worse and worse until the days
of Noah. The sin climaxed with Genesis 6:5--
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the
earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart
was only evil continually.
Keep in mind, Jesus tells us that when He returns, the world will
have returned to that wicked state (as in the days of Noah).
But at this point in man's
history, God tells Noah in Genesis 6 & 7 that everything in
whose nostrils is the breath of life will be destroyed by
flood, save Noah's family (8 people) and the critters on the ark.
Lack of breath is very descriptive. I'm not talking about the
phrase "out of breath", but the total lack. That means the
breath of life is gone. That means DEATH. Job frequently speaks of
breath. So does David. This verse just sort of says it all:
[God] takest away their breath, they die, and return to
their dust.
Psalm 104:29
And then a perfectly fitting New Testament response is found in
Acts chapter 17:
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing
that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples
made with hands;
25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as
though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life,
and breath, and all things;
God created us and breathed into man's nostrils the breath of
life, and He is to be worshipped as Creator! We need air! We
need oxygen! If we don't have it, we die! I challenge you to do
a topical study on verses that mention the word "breath". God's
breath, man's breath.... A truly fascinating Bible study.
So we need air! Basic information; yet for good health, this fact needs to be
reiterated. One of the books listed in the acknowledgements on
Healthy YOU says that outside air
is so much healthier. Well, that is true in Adam's day. Even in
Noah's. But the writer obviously lives in the mountains! I didn't when I wrote this page.
I lived in the city, blocks away from a sewage treatment facility. Going outside
and breathing deeply was not
as healthy as being in a clean house with many God-created plants
filling the place with oxygen, and THERE, breathing deeply *_* But oxygen
is a nutrient...a body builder. And it is a very necessary one.
There are many things that folks use in our homes that contaminate the air. For the
record, I am not a worshipper of "nature", but a worshipper of the Creator. Still,
the earth is the LORD's. We should be good caregivers to the piece of earth
He's entrusted to our care. Read the labels. If there is a warning about fumes,
prayerfully search for a simpler and more healthy cleanser / sanitizer. There
are many, many alternatives to aeresols today, too. And don't do these to "save
Mother Earth"! The planet is NOT our mother, because we are CREATED by
GOD. Don't fall for that terminology switch the evolutionists and their father
(John 8:44) are allowing to creep in unawares.
Let me conclude this section on HEALTHY AIR/BREATH with a summary:
We need air.
God gives us breath...or takes it from us--
or in other words,
Life and death are in God's hands.
Knowing this, let's observe to do according to God's Word. Let's use
the intelligent minds God gave us in order to have clean air in
our homes and a clean heart (by grace through faith - SALVATION *_*) with
which to worship and serve Him!
Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD.
Praise ye the LORD.
Psalm 150:6
