Since September of '05,
4 Seests in Paradise' Daniel is officially
a Navy VETERAN,
having received his honorable discharge from active duty service.
He is still in the Navy Reserves!
His last sea duty, he was stationed aboard the USS MARYLAND
in beautiful, historic St. Mary's, Georgia *_*

"Maryland, My Maryland"....
We were proud to have been a part of the MARYLAND BLUE Crew
from June '99 thru February '02.
(Thank you, Lee Roy Runion, for the photo)
Jennifer wrote a book that she based in Maryland
because of the USS MARYLAND being Daniel's last sea command!

April '99

The USS GREENEVILLE returned from her maiden WESTPAC
January of '99

The U.S.S. GREENEVILLE was named after a small town in Tennessee. Greeneville, TN has been a wonderful host town for the sub, and Daniel & Jennifer are
very proud that he is a "Plank Owner" of the GREENIE (what we affectionately call her), meaning that he was one of the members of the commissioning crew...quite
an honor! We wouldn't mind some day visiting Greeneville, TN again; and if they had a good position for someone with Daniel's training, living there!
Who knows?
Many thanks to those of you who prayed us through
the many sea-separations of 1998!!!

"The Submarine Wives Club" concerning
being stationed in Hawaii, please click HERE,
but be sure to come back to Mysterious Fathoms Below!!!!

![]() From the time she was in the Newport News, VA shipyard until April of '99, Dadda Daniel was stationed aboard the U.S.S. GREENEVILLE (SSN 772), a fast-attack, nuclear submarine stationed at Pearl Subase, HI. ***Yes, the GREENEVILLE stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI*** The same GREENEVILLE that, while conducting an emergency blow drill, came up under a Japanese fishing-school boat on the 9th of February. My heart still aches for all the families of those who died. My heart also goes out to Captain Waddle and his family and the crew. He is the captain pictured below at the change of command ceremony we attended only weeks before we left the island & the GREENEVILLE in April of '99. I'm certain that Captain Waddle will take full responsibility for this terrible accident. Having met him, I have the highest respect for him as an excellent captain...one who is concerned for the welfare of the individual sailor & his family as well as the boat as a whole. I cried every day for weeks after I heard about the accident...for the souls lost and their grieving families, and for the pain I know this has brought to Captain Waddle, the men of the GREENEVILLE past & present, and even for the wonderful sponsor city of GREENEVILLE, Tennessee who must be feeling this deeply also. PLEASE join with me in praying that the LORD comforts those who seek Him in this time of grief & devastation. Scott Waddle with Ken Abraham Publication Date: January 2003 Description: In 2001, a deadly collision between a U.S. submarine and a Japanese vessel plunged the sub's commander into a crucible of international anger and accusation. A beloved leader and godly man, Waddle refused his attorney's advice and accepted full responsibility. Here we go...DOWN THE HATCH!!!
Dadda Daniel & Caleb, Dec. '97

In '97, Caleb and Jennifer gave Daniel
an anchor keychain for Valentine's Day...
to remind him that...
"We have an Anchor (Christ) that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows (of life) roll..." *_*

Poppa Monck (Jennifer's Dad *_*)
took the Dependents' Cruise to Maui aboard the GREENEVILLE
in Novermber '97

The following is a hymn by C. Austin Miles
that I "claimed" as a theme song
when I accepted Daniel's proposal of marriage *_*
I knew at least for the first several years
we would be in the Navy.
See if this doesn't suit....

It may be in the valley, where countless dangers hide;
It may be in the sunshine that I, in peace, abide;
But this one thing I know--if it be dark or fair,
If Jesus is with me,
I'll go anywhere!
It may be I must carry the blessed Word of Life
Across the burning deserts to those in sinful strife;
And tho' it be my lot to bear my colors there,
If Jesus goes with me,
I'll go anywhere!
But if it be my portion to bear my cross at home,
While others bear their burdens [beneath] the billow's foam,
I'll prove my faith in Him--confess His judgments fair,
And, if He stays with me,
I'll stay anywhere!
It is not mine to question the judgments of my LORD,
It is but mine to follow the leadings of His Word;
But if to go or stay, or whether here or there,
I'll be, with my Savior,
Content anywhere!
(Chorus:) If Jesus goes with me, I'll go...Anywhere!
'Tis heaven to me, Where e'er I may be, If He is there!
I count it a privilege here His cross to bear;
[Since] Jesus goes with me,
I'll go ANYWHERE!

"If I take the wings of the morning,
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
even there shall thy hand lead me,
and thy right hand shall hold me."
Psalm 139:9 & 10

April 2000 was the Submarine Centennial Celebration!!

We were able to attend a wonderful celebration
commemorating the big day: (in Caleb's words,)
"Happy Birthday, Subby" party *_*
FYI: I don't USUALLY wear my hair in my eyes...
it was POURING down rain when we arrived
(even spotted a water spout!!! AAACK!)
But we had a wonderful time *_*
