On our autumn page, we have long had links to other sites for why we do what we do--and don't do what we don't do--for All Hallow's Eve, otherwise known as Halloween. A Chick Tract Trick-or-Treat TREAT shows what we do. This page is to show why we don't do the typical Halloween scene.
First of all, why has it taken so long to post this devotional?
Well, because of this verse:
Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things.
(Philippians 4:8)
Quite frankly, I don't like to fill my mind with thoughts of
demonism, witchcraft, evil spirits.... But part of being a good
Christian is knowing the enemy, being wise as serpents, and
harmless as doves. So, after having our homepage since 1997,
I am finally posting a Bible study/devotional on this topic in 2005!
Autumn is my favorite season.
BUT
I love the LORD of the Harvest!
NOT HALLOWEEN.
I give thanks! I celebrate the biblical Fall Festivals to the
best of my unlearned, Gentile ability, looking forward to their
future fulfillment in prophecy! But I do not celebrate
Halloween with anything that might glorify Satan and his
cronies.
But why?
Why do I take this fun, children's day and treat it like it's turned to THE DARK SIDE?
Because it hasn't "turned" at all. Halloween is historically
known to be a Satanic high day. Don't believe me? Ask a witch.
I'm being very forthright here, because the LORD is never glorified
by Christians sinning, even in ignorance. I've heard it all,
that I am depriving my children the fun of dressing up as
witches and mummies and Texas Chainsaw Masacre victims for the
31st of October. That I am depriving my children the literary
genius of Harry Potter stories. That I am depriving my children
the opportunity to explore for themselves the dark side and
choose for themselves what they want to believe.
HELLO???
Proverb 22:6 says, "Train up a child in
the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart
from it."
I have an awesome responsibility given to me by God to raise my
children to know the difference between right and wrong. I try
very hard not to make it "Mommy's opinion", but God's, basing
their boundaries on God's Word. If you are a Christian and are offended
by this, ask yourself prayerfully, "Why?"

God Himself says He will cut off from among His people all
who turn to mediums for help.
And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar
spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will
even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from
among his people. (Leviticus 20:6).
Capital punishment by stoning was God's sentence on anyone
who calls up spirits.
A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a
wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them
with stones: their blood shall be upon them. (Leviticus 20:27).
Witchcraft, fortune-telling, crystal gazing, necromancy,
horoscopes, and palmistry are related to spiritism and are
strongly condemned by God.
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his
son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth
divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a
witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a
wizard, or a necromancer. (Deuteronomy 18:10 & 11).
It was because of their black magic and related practices
that God destroyed the Canaanites, those who dwelt in "The
Promised Land" before the Children of Israel were given the
land for an inheritance.
For all that do these things are an abomination unto the
LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth
drive them out from before thee. (Deuteronomy 18:12).
Samuel's most effective way of impressing upon Saul the
enormity of the sins of disobedience and stubbornness was by
likening it to witchcraft.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness
is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the
word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. (I Samuel 15:23).
King Saul of Israel, when he was faithful to God, cleared all
the spiritualistic mediums out of the land.
Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and
buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put
away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of
the land. (I Samuel 28:3).
When King Saul later consulted a medium, it was only after
his sins had made communication with God impossible.
And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him
not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. Then said
Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar
spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his
servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a
familiar spirit at Endor. (I Samuel 28:6 & 7).
Saul's loss of his crown and his untimely death were the
direct judgment of God on him for his dealings in spiritism.
So Saul died for his transgression which he committed
against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he
kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a
familiar spirit, to enquire of it; (I Chronicles 10:13).
The list of wicked King Manasseh's sins includes consulting
with spirit-mediums, fortune-tellers, and sorcerers.
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the
valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used
enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar
spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of
the LORD, to provoke him to anger. (II Chronicles 33:6).
One of the reasons God rejected Israel was because they
practiced magic and communicated with evil spirits.
Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob,
because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers
like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children
of strangers. (Isaiah 2:6).
If you are a Christian, you should not seek worldly or
demonic influences for your guides. You should seek the living
God.
And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have
familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter:
should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the
dead? (Isaiah 8:19).
Even if they tell the truth or "get it right",
Fortune-tellers may be demon possessed, as was the girl in
Philippi out of whom the Apostle Paul cast an unclean spirit in
the name of Jesus.
16And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain
damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which
brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These
men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us
the way of salvation.
18And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved,
turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of
Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
(Acts 16:16-18).
True Christians, like those at Ephesus, have nothing to do
with black magic and its related practices, or with books
pertaining to them (!!!).
Many of them also which used curious arts brought their
books together, and burned them before all men: and they
counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces
of silver. (Acts 19:19).
Sorcery is included in the works of the flesh listed in the
Bible, and those who practice it cannot enter the kingdom of
God.
19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are
these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath,
strife, seditions, heresies,
21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:
of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time
past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the
kingdom of God.
(Galatians 5:19-21).
Those who engage in sorcery and never repent will be shut
out of Heaven and banished forever from God.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and
murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and
all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with
fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)
&
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and
murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. (Revelation 22:15).
The teachings of spiritism are doctrines of demons.
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times
some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing
spirits, and doctrines of devils; (I Timothy 4:1).
Demons are subject to God's greater power and tremble before
Him.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the
devils also believe, and tremble. (James 2:19).

And again:
Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things.
(Philippians 4:8)
