HOLY EUCHARIST: RITE II

'We make ourselves a ladder out of our vices if we trample the vices themselves underfoot' Augustine of Hippo

It’s the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost and all are welcome! In our celebration today, the feast days for yesterday and today of Monica and Augustine, two great African saints of the early Church, bring us models of who we strive to be as a faith community. Saint Monica.Disciple of Saint Ambrose. Mother of Saint Augustine, became a disciple of Saint Ambrose the bishop. Year 300. Saint Augustine. Bishop of Hippo and teacher of the faith, wrote many sermons and two great works, which continue to inspire. Year 330. Augustine of Hippo

Let us pray for: peace in our world, the famine stricken African countries of Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Burkina Faso, the troubled lands of Africa (especially Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire [former : Ivory Coast ] and Sudan) and the people of Guyana. We also pray for Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold, Diocesan Bishop John Croneberger and his wife. We remember in prayer Francis Coleman, Carolyn Goodwin, Eula Jefferson, Louise Meggett, Janice Nugent, Rudolph Perry, Tony Pina, Victoria Sawyer, Amanda Scott, Rev. Mildred J. Solomon, and Aquinda Toppins. Finally, we pray for all congregations in our diocese and for the safety of our troops.

HYMNS THIS WEEK

Rejoice, ye pure in heart (MARION)

Where He Leads Me

If when you give the best of your service

My hope is built on nothing less

I Have Decided to Follow Jesus
