November 20, Last Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 29): Solemnity of Christ the King.

Psalm 95:1-7a;
Ezekiel 34:11-17; 1 Corinthians 15:20-28; Matthew 25:31-46

Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven. Luke 19.38

Today, the last Sunday of the liturgical year, we are celebrating . The Feast of Christ the King is a fitting climax to the liturgical cycle. The Church ends her period of ordinary time, and prepares to enter the season of Advent, when we anticipate our memorial of the birth of Jesus Christ, and when we profess our faith that He will come again, at the end of all time. Christus vincit! Christus regnat! Christus imperat! (Christ conquers! Christ rules! Christ reigns!)

 This service will be a Jazz Mass. This Service drawn up by Saint Barnabas’ Organist/Liturgist Forrest Drennen will take the melodies and chord structures of traditional Christian music to blend them into an urban style of music. All of the liturgical elements of the Mass will be accompanied by Trinity: Saint Barnabas’ acoustic Jazz Trio. In a few weeks we shall celebrate Our Jazz Mass at Christmas.

Let us pray for: all the Saints who have illumined the world with their faith and witness to Jesus Christ, especially Rosa Parks, and all your prophets. The famine stricken African countries of Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Burkina Faso, the troubled lands of Africa (especially Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire [former : Ivory Coast ] and Sudan) and the people of Guyana. We also pray for Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold, Diocesan Bishop John Croneberger, his wife, and assistant Bishop Carol Gallagher. We remember in prayer Hazel Carter, Francis Coleman, Carolyn Goodwin, Eula Jefferson, Louise Meggett, Janice Nugent, Rudolph Perry, Tony Pina, Victoria Sawyer, Amanda Scott, Rev. Mildred J. Solomon, and Aquinda Toppins. Finally, with the Church throughout the ages we pray: “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!”
