for he keeps a strict account of their sins.
It’s the Seventeenth Sunday after
Pentecost, the fourth Anniversary of the September 11,
2001, Terrorist Attacks on New York and Washington that shook the
world. We reflect together on these events and their impact on the
nation by the singing of two new hymns: Prince of Peace, Heal Our Nation!, by
Jason Vaughn and When Sudden Terror Tears Apart, written
by Carl P. Daw, Jr. The Reverend Dr. Carl P. Daw Jr., is an
Episcopal priest and writer who was appointed as the Executive
Director of The Hymn Society in the United States and
Canada in 1996. This ecumenical and international
organization has its headquarters at Boston University School of
Theology, where Dr. Daw serves as an Adjunct Professor of Hymnology
in the Master of Sacred Music program. This weeks church calendar
also brings the Feast of St. Cyprian {September 13} and Holy Cross Day {September 14}
Let us pray for: peace in our world, all those
affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, the famine
stricken African countries of Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Burkina
Faso, the troubled lands of Africa (especially Liberia, Cote
d’Ivoire [former : Ivory Coast ] and Sudan) and the people of
Guyana. We also pray for Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold, Diocesan
Bishop John Croneberger and his wife. We remember in prayer Francis
Coleman, Carolyn Goodwin, Eula Jefferson, Louise Meggett, Janice
Nugent, Rudolph Perry, Tony Pina, Victoria Sawyer, Amanda Scott,
Rev. Mildred J. Solomon, and Aquinda Toppins. Finally, we pray for
all congregations in our diocese and for the safety of our troops.
