 ::: A
treasure is anything that
we deem valuable and hold
precious in our heart :::
Matthew
6:19-21
The Word is full of
promises, commands, and
warnings. In loving
kindness, Jesus directs
our attention to
incorruptible treasures
(spiritual and heavenly)
- treasures that cannot
be stolen, taken away,
and will not erode. He
instructs us not to store
up treasures on this
earth because they have
no real lasting value.
Then Christ goes a step
further and explains to
us that where our
treasure is, there will
our heart be.
Jesus
warns and cautions us
against coveting the
things of world. We are
not to put value in
earthly and carnal
possessions because if we
do we will fall into the
grasp of sin. Our Lord
knows that whatever we
hold in high esteem and
place value on will soon
consume our thoughts and
become our joy. Jesus
knows that the fleshly
mind will only want more
and more. He desires us
to understand that
earthly treasures can
quickly become our
security and hope and
that people become
dependent on them instead
of Him. Storing up the
things of this world is a
subtle sin, yet a deadly
sin that will bind us in
hypocrisy. Anything that
takes our emotions and
thoughts from Jesus will
bring destruction.
In these
few words of scripture,
Jesus explained to us
that all of earth's
treasures will tarnish
and vanish away. We must
not keep grasping to add
and add to them. We must
not make them our hope or
security. We must not
hold them so dear that
they become our
confidence and trust. If
we allow carnal earthly
things to become our hope
and security, our heart's
eye will be clouded in
darkness and great will
be that darkness -
"for where your
treasure is, there will
your heart be also.
Do you
hear the Spirit saying to
us: measure the
intentions of your heart.
In them do you find a
lust for fleshly gain,
mankind's approval or
acceptance, security,
hope, peace, etc. Do you
hear that soft voice that
says: When laying up
treasures, you are to
look only for God's
approval and acceptance.
This is to be your
heart's cry.
Let us
take heed to Jesus'
warning and not hold to
the things of this world
so that our hearts will
be set upon the glorious
wealth of Jesus living in
us. Let us follow
Christ's command and,
"lay up for
yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither
moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where
thieves do not break
through nor steal"
(Matt 6:20).

This
warning of Christ is
serious ...Where is your
heart?
