John 1: 47 - 51

Jesus told Nathanael that he saw him under the fig tree before Philip called him.  The commentaries say that Nathanael was praying under the fig tree when Jesus saw him.  Nathanael then believed that Jesus was the son of God.  We often think as Nathanael did.  Verse 50 made me think of how my thinking has changed over the years. Some things were beyond my understanding and then suddenly it became real to me; the knowledge was too wonderful for me!!

We are being changed from one degree of glory to another as our minds are renewed with the Word of God.  The older I get the more I can see how my mind was renewed; and continues to be renewed.  I ask daily for the Lord to guide me into all truth because I know I still have much to learn. 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass darkly: but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

I have failed so many times; but the important thing is not that we fail but that we continue to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into new truth and continue to grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus.  When I read my Bible I know we are in good company.  The apostle Paul had been clearly taught by Jesus that his weakness served the purpose of bringing the ultimate glory and honor to God: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly therefore will I take pleasure in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)  He that began a good work in you will surely bring it to completion but we will not be perfect until that day when the perfect one (Jesus) comes.

Jesus said Nathanael was an Israelite in whom there was no guile {John1:37}; therefore Nathanael certainly had been taught the Psalms of David.

 Psalm 139 1 - 7
"O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.  For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.  Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.  Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Perhaps that is why Nathanael said "Rabbi thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel."   He knew the scriptures but now he had met the Messiah!  Jesus met Nathanael at the point of his understanding and increased his knowledge( belief)  and Jesus meets us right where we are and increases our knowledge (beliefs).  Nathanael's head knowledge became heart knowledge.  We may know what the Bible says about a particular subject but until we experience it and it becomes heart knowledge we can not act upon it.  We may know verses in the Bible but do we believe them?

This I know, my savior paid my sin debt on that cross and when I invited Him into my heart He sent His Holy Spirit to indwell me and now I no longer live but Christ lives in me. He has made my life worth living!!  Now He satisfies my every longing and meets my every need. His mercy endures forever!!  "...I know in whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." 2 Timothy 1:12

Points to think about:

Can you remember some thoughts you had that have changed since you became a Christian and started studying and hearing the Word of God?

Can you remember a Bible verse that you knew but did not understand until later?

Does God know your thoughts before you become a Christian. Yes!!

Matthew 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts and said unto them , Every kingdom divided against itself  is brought to desolation and every city or home divided against itself shall not stand.

Matthew 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

Luke 6:8 "But He knowing their thoughts, said to the man which had the withered hand , Rise up and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth." The  scribes and Pharisees wanted to accuse Jesus if he healed on the Sabbath.  Jesus told the man to stretch forth his hand and when he did his hand was restored. Luke 6: 6 -10

You can not run and you can not hide from God.  If you have not accepted Jesus as your savior you are in danger of the judgment that will come upon this earth. Rev. 6:13  tells us about that time when the stars of heaven will fall unto the earth as a fig tree casteth her fruit when she is shaken of a mighty wind. v15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; v16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: v17 For the great day of His wrath is come: and who shall be able to stand?   They will learn that they can not run and can not hide from Him.  Are you ready to meet Him? Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man can come unto the Father but by me. John 14:6

Jesus loves you so much that He gave His life for you. John 15:13-14 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you."

The person who is not a Christian has a void in their  life that will never be satisfied by anything but a relationship with God. We were made to have that relationship. You can seek all of the things of the world but they will never satisfy. If you are not a Christian and would like to become one please visit this page.  Know Him
