On July 19, 2003, the Port Authority Police of NY/NJ, JFK International Airport Command, dedicated a Memorial in honor and remembrance of the 37 PAPD Officers lost on 9/11/01.

As a bugler played Taps, the Memorial had its cover, an American flag, removed by the PAPD JFK Honor Guard.  The family members present were each given a rose with the name of their lost loved one on it.  They were invited to come up to view the Memorial and place the rose in a vase, which had been placed on the ground in front of the Memorial.  A carnation was placed for Sirius, the PAPD K-9 lost on that fateful day.  For those family members who had not been able to attend the ceremony, volunteer members of the JFK Command, placed a rose in the vase in remembrance of their fallen brothers.

As the Memorial was being viewed for the first time and the roses were being placed, the PAPD bagpipers played Amazing Grace and Coming Home.  It was a very moving service, done with great dignity and honor.

After the Memorial Service, all family members and attendees were invited into the JFK Command's Emergency Garage area where a great luncheon was provided by the PBA.

The JFK 9-11 Memorial is made of twin tablets of black marble, with the names of the lost 37 PAPD Officers and K-9 Sirius.  The names are listed alphabetically by rank, with each officer's name and shield number.  The marble tablets are separated by a bronze plaque depicting the NYC skyline including the WTC, the Statue of Liberty, an American Flag, and a soaring American Eagle holding a banner which reads September 11, 2001.

Directly below the centered bronze is a third piece of marble, depicting the Port Authority Police Department's Memorial uniform arm patch surrounded by the words

In Loving Memory Of Our "Brave 37"
Who Sacrificed Their Lives So Others Could Live

(Directly below is JFK's dedication to them all)

NEVER FORGOTTEN BY THE MEMBERS OF THE J.F.K. COMMAND

Sitting atop a main support beam from the WTC site, the Memorial will now and forever be a reminder to all of the loss of our brothers and sister on 9-11.  Those who enter JFK's PAPD Station will be able to see this beautiful Memorial, which sits directly outside the front doors of the station house.

Just prior to the above 12 noon ceremony there were two other smaller private unveilings. The first took place at 10:30 am in the lobby of the PAPD JFK Stationhouse Building #269 where two bronzes were unveiled for the two JFK Command members who were lost on 9-11 at the WTC.  Inspector Anthony Infante had been JFK's Commanding Officer and P.O. George Howard served on JFK's Emergency Service Unit Truck #8. With JFK's Honor Guard present, the Howard and Infante families were honored privately at this unveiling.

At 11:15 am in the lobby of the PAPD Aircraft Rescue Firefighting Academy, located at JFK in Building #254, there was a second unveiling of two bronzes in memory of Captain Kathy Mazza and P.O. Paul Jurgens.  At the time of their deaths, Captain Mazza and Officer Jurgens were assigned to the Police Academy Command.  Previously both had been JFK Command Officers.  The JFK Command wanted to remember their fallen colleagues, so they had a brand new Memorial Wall built in Building #254 for them.

The JFK 9-11 Memorial, the four bronzes (for Inspector Infante, P.O. Howard, Captatin Mazza and P.O. Jurgens) and all you see here was designed, paid for and put in place by the JFK Command's Police Officer's, Sergeant's, Detective's, Lieutenant's and Commanding Officer's.  No funds were provided by the Port Authority of NY & NJ in this effort.  This Memorial was completely done by the men and women of the JFK PAPD Command.  A lot of help was supplied by other Port Authority Divisions, who donated labor, time and materials in the futherance of our efforts to memorialize the PAPD 37.  Others that helped were the PA Divisions of SEMAC, PA Law, JFK Maintenace and our friends at American Airlines who provided us the forklift that lifted the 2000 pound beam into place outside JFK's PAPD Stationhouse.  It took many working towards a common goal and also believing that these men, woman and K-9 Sirius should NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
