Alan and I
met one of the best ways possible, through the youth group at our church. Alan
was one of the "college & career" guys and I was one of the flirty teenage
girls. Alan proposed to me on a rainy summer afternoon in a canoe in the middle
of Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire. He brought along his guitar and seranaded me
with a song he wrote just for the occasion. I was so swept away that I
almost didn't notice that there was a lightning storm going on around us
as I sat in the canoe with a metal umbrella in my hand!
It is so wonderful to see God's plan in placing us together! He certainly
knows what is best. Alan, the Choleric, and I, the Phlegmatic, balance each
other's strengths and weaknesses quite well (usually). I know that I could not
be married to another me; and I dare say, two Alans would drive each
other crazy! God's plan is truly perfect. I pray every day for our children's
future mates. I know God already has them chosen. Outwardly, Michael shows
little interest in the possibility of any future W-I-F-E (especially when
I joke that she could be in preschool!). Gabriel talks a lot about growing
up to be a dad; but I'm sure we'll be heading into that "cootie" stage very soon! Elyse, on the other hand, seems to revel in the idea that God
already has her husband picked out and that His choices are perfect, just like
the choice He made for me.
