Edward Colver Born: 1600 in Groton, England.
Edward (Colver) Culver is the founder of the Culver Family in America, a Puritan
emigrant from Middlesex, England, where John Winthrop and his son
recruited a band of colonists. Edward sailed from the Port of London in
1635. Edward's name appears on the original Covenant entered into by
members of the Colony at Boston for settlement of "Contentment" (later changed
to Dedham, Ma.) September 10, 1636. Edward's occupation is reported as a
millwright and a wheelwright. Edward participated in the Indian Wars and
in King Philip's War in 1675. For his services as Scout and Indian
Fighter, Edward was rewarded with four grants of land. One of the grants he
named "Chepadas" which his descendants held for many years. Edward moved
to Mystic, Ct. in 1668 Died: 1685 in Groton, New London,

when he moved to Michigan and remained there until 1864. He then
moved to Des Moines, Iowa and in 1867 moved to Guthrie County and settled in
Cass Township. Leamon was one of the prominent men in his community. His
farm was about 160 acres when still in his thirties. Died: 4/27/1881 in
Panora, Ia. of appendicitis

Sarasota, Florida, where their two sons lived. Died: 5/17/1971 in
Sarasota, Fl. of a massive
stroke.

in Gowrie, Ia. After graduation from Guthrie County High School, Dale
attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. After graduation, he married
Jeanette and they moved to Evanston, Illinois, where he was employed. Due
to the Depression he had to move to Colorado to work as a miner in Apex
and Silvergon, until 1938. He then moved his family to Kansas City,
Missouri where he worked for City Ice Company until 1950 when he became a
stockbroker. Dale was active in civic and church
organizations. Died: 11/16/1969 in Kansas City,
Mo.

Mother: Isabelle Smith Married: 6/11/1930 in Mason City,
Ia. After graduation from Mason City High School, Jeanette
attended Grinnell College where she studied art. She went to the Chicago
Art Institute to complete her art education. Throughout her life she
painted landscapes, portraits in water color and oils, and exhibited at art
shows in the Kansas City area. Jeanette left an artistic legacy to her
children and grandchildren, many of whom have her talent. She was active
in her church. Died: 11/7/1967 in Kansas City, Mo.

in Gowrie, Ia. Amert was the fourth of six children born to Harry
Culver. She was educated in the Panora School System and then
attended college in Des Moines. After her marriage to Allen Varner
they moved to Minnesota, Colorado, back to Minnesota and then in 1942, to
Michigan. Amert has been involved in the Red Cross, Child Evangelism, in
civic, school and church affairs. After her children married she worked in
a drapery shop for several years. Amert became active in the Muskegon
Genealogical Society and attended Muskegon Community College and took courses
in English and Writing. At the time of this writing, 2003, Amert
lives in Muskegon, MI. She has ten grandchildren,
thirty one great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

2/2/1915 in Yale, IA Gwen graduated from Panora High School in 1932
and married the following year. She lived on a farm until 1971
and, besides being a wife and mother, was always active in community
affairs. After the children left home Gwen worked in Des Moines for
four years. In 1971 Gwen and her husband moved to a new home on Lake
Panorama, and in 1981 moved again to the east side of the lake, just off the
7th green of the golf course. Both Gwen and her husband are avid
golfers. After their retirement in 1975, Gwen and Don started

Ia. Donald was the fifth and last child in his family.
He attended Guthrie County High School. When Don graduated high
school he asked to be the last student to receive his diploma so he could be the
last person to ever receive a diploma from the school under the name of Guthrie
County High School. After that year, 1931, the school was
renamed Panora High School. That fall Don enrolled at Iowa State College
at Ames. He had only attended one semester when the bank
at Panora went broke and he had to go to work. (These were The Great
Depression years.) During the summers of 1930, 31 and 32 Don
attended Citizens Military Training School in Des Moines. He
married his wife, Gwendolyn Culver, in 1933 so did not attend that fourth
year. (Had he done so he would have been called to
service in World War II. Instead, since he was farming, he received a
deferred rating. Donald farmed for forty years and, during the
last nineteen of those years also worked in Des Moines.
He retired in 1975.
