(John 3:16 KJV) "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
God has given man many, many promises. I am told that He has made over thirty thousand (30,000) promises to His people. Let me mention a few of them.
(Acts 13:38 KJV) "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:"
(Eph 1:7 KJV) "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"
(1 John 1:9 KJV) "If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
(Eph 2:8 KJV) "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"
(Eph 2:9 KJV) "Not of works, lest any man should boast."
(John 6:47 KJV) "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."
(Mat 7:7 KJV) "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"
(Mat 7:8 KJV) "For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."
(Mat 7:9 KJV) "Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?"
(Mat 7:10 KJV) "Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?"
(Mat 7:11 KJV) "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"
(John 14:1 KJV) "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."
(John 14:2 KJV) "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
(John 14:3 KJV) "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
(Rom 8:28 KJV) "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
(Rom 10:13 KJV) "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
(Rev 22:17 KJV) "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."
(Rom 4:18 KJV) "Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be."
(Rom 4:19 KJV) "And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:"
(Rom 4:20 KJV) "He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;"
(Rom 4:21 KJV) "And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform."
God is a faithful God. That means He will keep His Word; He will fulfill every promise He has made.
Someone has said, "God is faithful. He is not whimsical, capricious, or flippant. He cannot violate His own integrity nor fail to keep His promises. We would have no gospel without God's faithfulness, no good news unless God could be counted on. Our gospel begins with the claim, "Our God is faithful."
(2 Tim 2:13 KJV) "If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself."
(2 Th 3:3 KJV) "But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil."
(Heb 10:23 KJV) "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)"
The Bible tells us that God cannot lie. It does not say He does not lie or He may not lie. It says that God cannot lie.
(Titus 1:2 KJV) "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"
(Num 23:19 KJV) "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
We are also told that it is impossible for God to lie.
(Heb 6:18 KJV) "That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:"
God's promises have never failed and will never fail.
(1 Ki 8:56 KJV) "Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant."
(Josh 23:14 KJV) "And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof."
Now consider the greatest promise, "That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." God so loved the world with its teeming multitudes of lost souls. He loved a world that did not love Him.
Romans 1:18-32 tells us the kind of people God loved.
(Rom 1:18 KJV) "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;"
(Rom 1:19 KJV) "Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them."
(Rom 1:20 KJV) "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"
(Rom 1:21 KJV) "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."
(Rom 1:22 KJV) "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,"
(Rom 1:23 KJV) "And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things."
(Rom 1:24 KJV) "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:"
(Rom 1:25 KJV) "Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."
(Rom 1:26 KJV) "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:"
(Rom 1:27 KJV) "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet."
(Rom 1:28 KJV) "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;"
(Rom 1:29 KJV) 'Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,"
(Rom 1:30 KJV) "Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,"
(Rom 1:31 KJV) "Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:"
(Rom 1:32 KJV) "Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."
Several verses tell us of our Lord's love for the Church which is made up of all who are saved, all who have accepted Him as Lord and Savior.
(Eph 5:25 KJV) "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;"
(2 Th 2:16 KJV) "Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,"
(Rev 1:5 KJV) "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,"
But the most thrilling, the most exciting truth of all is that He love me.
(Gal 2:20 KJV) "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
It is good to know that God loves us all, without exception. It is better still to know that He singles out each one of us and makes each of us the special object of His loving concern.
A wealthy New York banker had tried to no avail to promote a program of gospel witnessing in the Army camp near New York. Finally he was permitted to distribute one item among the soldiers. he had manufactured a small mirror and on its back had printed these words, "If you want to see who it is God loves and for whom He gave His Son, please look on the other side." Every living being is an object of God's love. Think of this wonderful truth that Christ loved me and gave Himself for me.
When He said He loved the world, I know I'm included. When it is said He loved the Church, I'm included, but when it is said that He loves me, that is different. See how it is narrowed down -- the world -- the Church -- me. This meant a lot to Paul, an old apostle. When they threw him in jail, beat him half to death, people hating him -- He could look up and say, "Jesus, you love me."
One day a man took his little son to the top of a high hill and he pointed in every direction -- north, south, east, and west and said, "My boy, God's love is as big as all that!" "Yes, Daddy," said the little boy, "And just think we are right in the middle of it."
When Oliver Cromwell lay dying he said, "I think I am the poorest wretch that lives, but I am loved of God." Victor Hugo said, "The supreme happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved."
We sing:
"I am so glad that my Father in Heaven,Middleton said, "How great would be our satisfaction if we could only become thoroughly aware of the greatness, the power, the strength and all inclusiveness of God's love."
Tells of His love in the book He has given,
Wonderful things in the Bible I see
But this is the dearest, that Jesus loves me."
God gave His Son to die in order that we might be saved. He died in our place to pay our sin debt.
(Rom 5:6 KJV) "For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly."
(Rom 5:7 KJV) "For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die."
(Rom 5:8 KJV) "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
(1 Pet 3:18 KJV) "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:"
God loves each of us with the whole of His love. That God can love the whole human race, with all its millions in all five continents, both past and present, and single out each member of such a vast family, seems impossible to these little minds of ours. Yet this is how God loves. He does not divide His love among us. He loved each of us with the whole of His love.
We can best illustrate this by a mother's love for her children. You know how a mother lavishes her love on her first little one. There never was a baby so sweet as this one. What happens to that mother's love when other young lives are born into the family? Does she divide her love into parts and devote a part to each child? Of course not. Such questions sound absurd. She loves each child with the whole of her love.
"That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." The best definition of the term "whosoever" came from a newspaper boy. A preacher was trying to lead him to become a Christian and he asked him if he knew what "whosoever" meant. The boy replied, "Well, sir, you see it sort o' means everybody else and me."
(Rom 10:13 KJV) "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
(Rev 22:17 KJV) And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
George Cutting told of a mother who had been told her son was killed in the war, but later learned it was not her son but another soldier with the same name.
If God were to list all for whom Christ died, we would not live long enough to read it and if we found our name we might question whether it referred to us or someone else by the same name.
But, we don't have to wonder if we are included in God's offer of salvation. The Holy Spirit through John tells us in John 3:16 that salvation is for "whosoever will."
A London city missionary before three hundred ragged children placed sixpence under a book on the table and said, "Whosoever believeth, let him come and take it." He waited -- a little chap came, took the money and said, "Thank you." The missionary asked, "What is your name?" "Cecil Smithers," he answered. "I did not say that Cecil Smithers could have the money," the missionary said. "No sir," said the boy, "But you said 'whosoever,' and that means me."
A certain man had a bottle inside of which was a scripture telling of God's love for him. "Why do you keep this?" someone asked. He replied, "I am a deep sea diver. I found this bottle and this text at the bottom of the ocean. I had long forgotten God when I found it. I said, "If God loves me enough to follow me to the bottom of the ocean, I will yield my life to Him."
Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman wrote the following:
"I once conducted services in a soldiers' home. The commanding officer told me, when the service was concluded, of a former inmate, an old sea captain, who came to the institution a confessed infidel. He refused to attend any of the services in the chapel; finally he was taken ill, and then the commanding officer entered his room, asking him to read the Scriptures, which he declined to do. Again he came suggesting that he read the Bible to see if there was any part he could believe, and a bottle of red ink and a pen were left by his bedside, and the officer suggesting that he mark any verse red if he could accept it. This appealed to the dying man and he said, "Where shall I read?"
The officer said, "Begin with John's Gospel."
And he did so. He read through two chapters without making a mark, and through fifteen verses of the third chapter. Then he came to the sixteenth verse, which is a picture of the very heart of God, and he reached for his pen and marked the verse red. When this much of the story had been told, we reached the old captain's room and passed the threshold to find the bed empty, for he was gone. "I wish you might have seen his Bible," said the captain. "I sent it to his family recently. There was not a page in it that was not marked red." Over his bed swung a pasteboard anchor; marked upon it were these words -- "I have cast my anchor in safe harbor." For he had gone home.
God made this great promise
to you. He promised you everlasting life if you'll believe in His Son,
the Lord Jesus. Do you believe that promise and have you trusted His Son?
If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, you have everlasting life. Rejoice
and praise God for it.
