PSALM of THE MONTH

SEPTEMBER

PSALM 136

O Give thanks unto the LORD;
for he is good:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

O give thanks unto the God of gods:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

O give thanks to the Lord of lords:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him who alone doeth great wonders:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him that by wisdom made the heavens:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him that stretched out the earth above the waters:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him that made great lights:
for his mercy endureth for ever:

The sun to rule by day:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

The moon and stars to rule by night:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

And brought out Israel from among them:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

With a strong hand,
and with a stretched out arm:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him which divided the Red sea in parts:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

And made Israel to pass through the midst of it:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

But overthrew Pharoah and his host in the Red sea:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him which lead his people through the wilderness:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him which smote great kings:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

And slew famous kings:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

Sihon king of the Amorites:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

And Og the king of Bashan:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

And gave their land for an heritage:
for his mercy endureth foe ever.

Even an heritage unto Israel his servant:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

Who remembered us in our low estate:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

And hath redeemed us from our enemies:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

Who giveth food to all flesh:
for his mercy endureth forever.

O give thanks unto the God of heaven:
for his mercy endureth for ever.

MY REFLECTIONS ON PSALM 136

Humility is the emotion that grips my heart
when I read Psalm 136.
For days this phrase has been repeating itself in my mind.
...His mercy endureth for ever....
So this is the choice for the month of September.
I hope you read it everyday and find a nugget to add
to the treasure chest of your soul.
I hope everyday you experience the ever enduring Mercy of God.

When I read Psalm 136 I feel every inch of my smallness.
I am overwhelmed anew at the patience of God.
How tender, how personal, how compassionate He truly is.
Just like David said, (and how true he was)...
HIS MERCY ENDURETH FOR EVER....

How merciful depends on how much mercy I need.
How merciful depends on how much mercy YOU need.
This is the Truth I have learned.

His mercy is greater than my need.
His mercy can sooth the pain threatening to overcome me.
The pain of knowing I have sinned
and the remorse that has eaten
at the core of me like worms.
His mercy can deliver to me His forgiveness.
His mercy can still the voice of recrimination
that echoes in my mind.
Recrimination that attempts to keep me locked
in the bondage of shame and despair.
His mercy can restore me to His fellowship.
His mercy bleaches the stain of sin from my life.
It is His mercy that wipes the tears from my eyes
and brings a sparkle of joy and gratitude to replace them.
It is His mercy that has provided for me
a place in HIS Eternity.
A place where I can meet Him face to face.
Where I can worship and adore Him.
Where I can spend all my time singing, dancing
and testifying of His mercy.
Where I can spend every moment of that Eternity in His embrace.
Thanking Him for the mercy He extended to ME.
...AMEN...
FOR HIS MERCY THAT ENDURES FOR EVER.
...AMEN!!
