WHISPER IF


IF I whisper to God words that I keep shadowed in my heart;
Do they condemn me in the same way,
As if I had spoken them aloud for other ears to hear?
The words are the same.
The actions the same.
But the 'reaction' totally different.


IF I whisper, "Lord, no more can I endure.
No more can be held in this heart."
Am I saying He is incapable of holding me??
Preserving me??
Regulating the degree of suffering that falls upon me??
The words are the same.
The actions the same.
But the 'reaction' totally different.


I ponder these questions in my heart.
They echo an off key melody.
A sing song that gnaws at my core.
Doubt, faith, doubt, faith, doubt, faith...
Till their impact overwhelms me.
I find myself in a swirl of condemnation.
Dragged down by guilt others like to press upon me.
That is MY reaction, NOT God's.


God's reaction begins to emerge, focusing.
God is offering an opportunity.
One that can press the tiny mustard seed to bursting!!
Opportunity He places... just within my grasp.
There it is, just at the treeline, beckoning.
It is for ME to say...


Will I go on in anticipation
Seeking the treasures unseen?
Or will I remain cloistered within the walls of comfort,
where I am safe - but unsettled??
I must make the journey from here to there.
I must WANT to stretch...to receive.
MY reaction MUST be 'STEP-OUT!
It is for ME to say.


Holding Faith in the palm of my hand
Places ME in control.
For she is like a soft mink blanket.
Warm, sheltering, nurturing...SAFE.
Something to hold tight, to possess.
To take out of the treasure chest and admire.
A blue ribbon so to speak,
when I am feeling 'arrived'.
Or threatened by her meagerness.


BUT Faith WITH a blindfold,
WITHOUT a safety net,
Puts the control BACK into God's Hands.
Right where it BELONGS!
Faith exercised is GROWTH.
Faith released into the passing breeze
Is indeed sought for.
Faith in action is pleasing to the Father.
Faith soaring with the eagles is...
FREEDOM!!
