Who is Jesus?

Well that's straight forward enough! Jesus is the Son of God. Note here that this isn't the claim of Jesus or some unfounded elevation by a delerious crowd, but an assertion of truth by God himself. Here in Luke 9:35, it is God that tells us that Jesus is his Son and we should listen to His Word.

This is not to say that Jesus denies He is the Son of God. When challenged by Caiaphas the High Priest He admits to being the Messiah:

Mat 26: 63-64 And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God that You tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.'' Jesus said to him, "It is as you said".

More often however, we hear Jesus refer to Himself as the Son of Man. He was aware that asserting His relationship to God would lead to His Crucifixion and so chose to emphasise His relationship with man throughout His teaching. The Angels also verify that Jesus is the Son of God:

Luke 1: 31-33 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.''

Man himself also attests to the fact that Jesus is the Son of God. There are many instances in the bible where Jesus' status is acknowledged by man. One of the more well known of these is by John the Baptist.

John 1: 32-34 And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, `Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.''

Even the demons and Satan himself recognise Jesus as the true and living Son of God as these following scriptures show:

Mark 1: 23-25 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are the Holy One of God!'' But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!''

Luke 4: 9-12 Then he [Satan] brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. For it is written: `He shall give His angels charge over You, to keep You,' and, `In their hands they shall bear You up, lest You dash Your foot against a stone.' '' And Jesus answered and said to him, "It has been said, `You shall not tempt the Lord your God.' ''

So there we have it from the mouths of God, Jesus Himself, Angels, man, demons and Satan! All are witness to the fact that Jesus is the Son of God. But despite all this evidence there are some who see Jesus at best as a great 'man' or 'prophet'. But just like some of the Jews of His day, Jesus has a stark warning for such people who still chose not to believe:

John 8: 23-24 And He said to them, "You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.''
